Big Brother 8 UK – Big Bother.

BIG Brother bosses have been forced into a humiliating apology over the racism row which blighted the last Celebrity Big Brother series.

Channel 4, who screen the show, were guilty of “serious editorial misjudgement”, broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has ruled.

The bullying of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty by other housemates including Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O’Meara caused an international outcry.

Now it appears that even worse racist insults were included in unseen footage from the show.

Channel 4 have avoided a fine after being found guilty of breaching the broadcasting code of conduct in relation to the show. But they will have to broadcast three apologies to viewers before and during the new series of Big Brother which starts next week.

Ofcom singled out three occasions on which Channel 4 had failed to handle the situation appropriately.
Jade Goody faces the media in India

They were: Jade Goody referring to Shetty as “Shilpa Poppadom”; Lloyd saying that Shetty should “f*** off home”; and the argument over Shetty cooking a chicken, which ended with Lloyd and O’Meara making derogatory comments about Indian eating habits.

In unseen footage from the show, Goody, O’Meara, Lloyd and Goody’s boyfriend, Jack Tweedy, made up a limerick about Shetty in which they joked about using a word which rhymed with “tacky”.

Big Brother producers asked O’Meara and Tweedy into the Diary Room and told them: “It is clear that this was a reference to the racial insult ‘Paki’.” Both agreed. The explosive scenes were never broadcast.

A spokesman for the watchdog said: “Ofcom takes allegations of racist abuse and bullying on television extremely seriously.”

Labour MP Keith Vaz, who led protests in Parliament over the issue called for Channel Four chief executive Andy Duncan to resign.

“Channel Four has behaved in an arrogant way which has shown contempt for the code of broadcasting,” said Mr Vaz. “It is only right that they should be punished by having to broadcast, for the first time, an on-air apology.

“Andy Duncan should now apologise to Shilpa Shetty and realise that the contempt that was shown by them during this whole episode, in my view and that of many of the viewers who complained, now merits his resignation.”

Big Brother 7 Aus – Big Brother Tragedy

A BIG Brother contestant in Oz is locked away in the BB house unaware that her dad has died and been buried!

Emma Cornell, a 24-year-old personal trainer, is enjoying the antics of her fellow housemates on the exotic Gold Coast totally unaware of the tragic news from home.

The contestants are all in a purpose-built house in Queensland with no access to outside news and information.

Emma’s dad, Raymond Cornell, died of cancer in a hospice last week and was buried in Adelaide on Monday, Big Brother bosses confirmed. He was 53.

A spokesman for BB makers Endemol Southern Star said: “We’re abiding by her family’s wishes in not informing her.”

Big Brother 8 UK – Chris Moyles to guest present BBBM

GOBBY Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles is set to host Big Brother’s Big Mouth.

Moyles, 33, will be among a series of guest presenters for the BB spin-off show after previous host Russell Brand quit.

He will front it for a week, with Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches, 18, also being lined up as a host — despite filming a “chaotic” pilot show.

Steve Marsh and Dan Wright, from kiddies’ show Big Cook Little Cook, are set to have a go.

E4’s Big Mouth has expanded its set and doubled its audience in a bid to get more viewers.

An insider said: “Chris will be the first host and will present for a week.

“Then different guests will come and go — some may be invited back, others might not. Big Brother is 14 weeks long this year so there’ll be a certain amount of playing it by ear. Moyles is a definite signing. Steve and Dan are very much liked and will be on board too.

“There is some umming and aahing about Peaches but a decision will be made about her very soon.”

Peaches previously appeared as a guest on the show as the ex-girlfriend of Celebrity BB star Donny Tourette.

She recently filmed a pilot in front of a studio audience — her first ever live presenting gig. Our source said: “She was like a sulky teenager. But because the show is meant to be anarchic, a lot of people feel she could be a great asset, despite not being a skilled presenter.”

He said Peaches made a “terribly crass joke” about Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who died last year: “It went down like a lead balloon. But BBBM is about pushing the boundaries so that doesn’t rule her out.”
