A note about Big Brother Australia 7 – Friday Night Live # 8

Yesterday was quite the day for my youtube account bbaus7. If you watched the episode of Friday Night Live from last Friday, you would have seen the weeks theme was Mexican night, if you didn’t see the episode and have never seen FNL before…this is something they do each week, some times they have general themes such as ‘jungle night’ & ‘Hollywood night’ and often the theme is based on a country such as ‘Pom night’, ‘Japanese night’ and most recently the aforementioned ‘Mexican night’ – it’s all just light hearted fun based on silly stereotypes & nothing to take offense to. However on Mexican night they had one game that involved throwing Chille Con Carne at the Mexican flag, a few days ago it seems the Mexican media picked up on this & it has subsequently been all over the Mexican news.

Now, unfortunately for me, if you do a google search for ‘Big Brother 7 aus Friday night live’ my youtube account and this site are the first results, something that 1000s of offended Mexicans obviously did yesterday and rather than thinking about who they were attacking, decided I was a good target just because I was their first destination. Within about an hour I had received 100s of comments on the offending video on youtube & decided to remove it there and then so as to hopefully avoid the drama & because I did not want to risk my account getting removed, this only prompted people to start leaving comments on other videos, here at RealityTVFan.org and via PM and email to me personally. Within the next 5 hours I must have received over a thousand comments…about 2% of which were sensible, to the point and polite. The rest were completely offensive (to both myself and Australians), poorly written and completely racist.

Eventually I gave up deleting the offensive comments, responding to emails and trying in vain to explain to these people that I have nothing to do with the show itself and was not the correct person to be airing their complaint to and I went to bed.

Now, the next day, I have come online and it’s no surprise to me that I have 100s of more emails and comments…including over 300 emails from youtube to inform me, my videos have been removed for copyright infringement. Currently 67 videos remain on my account, but I have no doubt that they will be removed very soon also…and I will be very very very lucky if my account is not suspended when it happens.

So, to those that are still harassing me about this, I will say one last time. Your argument is not with me, any comments you have left or emails sent have achieved absolutely nothing as no one other myself and a few BB Aus fans have seen them and none of us have anything to do with the show. All you have achieved is royally pissing one person off and ruined the enjoyment of many others who were following the series on my youtube channel. Your complaint is with Southern Star Australia, the people who made and aired the episode & if you just want someone to spout your racist crap at, may I direct you to the Official BB website, who, by the way have already apologised.

To the people who have been following Big Brother Australia via my site/channel. At this moment I don’t know what is going to happen, obviously I will not be re-uploading the 320+ videos that were removed as it’s far too big a job and uploads of new episodes is at the very least ‘on hold‘ until I know if my account & the remaining 67 videos are going to be removed, and if the angry mob is now going to stop harassing me. If they are going to continue, there is no point in me uploading more either on that channel, a new channel or a whole different website.

I will keep you updated on the situation, but right at this moment I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is the end of the line for this series :(

Statement from Big Brother producers Endemol Southern Star

On June 19, Big Brother producers Endemol Southern Star wrote to the Embassy of Mexico in Canberra after the embassy questioned the way the Mexican national flag was used in Friday Night Live last week (June 15).

Big Brother intended no offence to any person, country or institution and has apologised for any offence caused. Friday Night Live is themed each week and June 19’s Mexican Night was designed as a tribute to Mexico and its vibrant cultural heritage.

In addition to offering their apologies, Big Brother’s producers have assured the Mexican Government that something like this would never happen again.
